Abstract
According to the local regulation no. 6 about Spatial Area of Semarang District in 2011-2031, Semarang has three central growth, one of the areas is Ambarawa city. The purpose of building the central growth is to make the movement for the surrounding area. In SWP 2 of Ambarawa, there are different economic activities. Many sub-districts have lower economic than others. Therefore, the evaluation about the role and the function of Ambarawa as the central growth is needed. This research aim to analyze the role of the urban area by observing the economics of each sub-district in SWP 2 from 2011 to 2017. Other than that, the researcher will analyze the influence of Ambarawa toward the surrounding area. The function of urban area will be analyze by observing urban hierarchy in SWP 2 about the provision of infrastructures. In receiving the goals, the researcher used Location Quotient analysis, Gravity analysis and Scalogram analysis. The used data are secondary data from 2011 until 2017 as the GDP of Semarang district, the distance between each sub-district, total population, number of infrastructure and primary data of the interview with the government. The result of this study shows that Ambarawa has fulfill the role. It can ease accessibility because Ambarawa has strong interaction toward the surrounding area. Ambarawa also has good facilities so that the city has the function as the public central and trading center.
