Abstract

In this paper, the writer will discusses Cingciripit game. Cingciripit game is a traditional game of Sundanese society which meaningful and useful for the implementation of character education of children. This research aims to reveal the symbolic meaning of the game and the song accompaniment, and the moral values contained in this game. In addition, this research also aims to reveal the benefits of the cingciripit game in the implementation of character education for children. The data uses audio-visual recordings. The data is presented by using the observation method with non-participant and interview techniques. Data are analyzed by using semiotic approach. From this research, it is known that the Cingciripit game has the symbolic meaning indicated by instruments such as the hands and fingers as the object of a sign which represent tulang bajing (bones of squirrels) and wulu pare (rice shoorts). In addition, the symbolic meaning contained in the game is about leadership. While the moral value is about education, which is taught to always be focused, agile, and meticulous. The meaning and moral value certainly play a major role for character education of children. Therefore, this research presents to provide advice for educators to make the traditional game as a learning media.
