Abstract

Vlog is a form of blogging activity by using a medium of video that is currently much in demand and watched especially by teenagers through social media Youtube. Besides being entertainment, vlog also provide knowledge for the audience. One of the vlog that is full of knowledge is the vlog "Story Time With Jovi" contained on Jovi Adhiguna's channel on social media Youtube. The purpose of this conducted research is to describe and analyze the type of illocutionary act and explain the function of what type of illocution used in the vlog “Story Time With Jovi”. At the phase of data collection, the authors use the scrutinized method with download the video first, and continued with the technique of note. The data were analyzed by 4 steps, that is transcription, translation, analysis and interpretation, and making conclusions about the types of illocutionary act and the functions. Based on the data analysis, there are five types of speech acts of illocution and two types of speech illocution function. The five types of speech acts of illocution are (1) representative speech acts, including stating, mentioning, reporting, acknowledging, and speculating; (2) directive, including inviting, asking, urging, ordering, suggesting, and giving cue; (3) expressive, include praise, thank you, criticize, complain, and blame; (4) commisives, includes promising and declaring ability; and (5) Declarative, including deciding, canceling, banning, and allowing. Two types of illocution speech functions are (1) fun, include greeting, thanking, offering, and inviting; and (2) cooperate, including declaring, announcing, and reporting.
