Abstract

Low self efficacy (SE) and dietary non-adherence in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients were often occur. Some strategies to improve SE and diabetics dietary adherence have been widely practiced, but not optimal and tend to be ineffective. Self efficacy training (SET) proven able to improve SE so that dietary adherence increased. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of SET on SE and diabetic dietary adherence. Study desaign used quasi experiment with post test design nonequivalent control group. Samples of the intervention and control groups were 48 and 51 persons, respectively. SE was measured by The Diet Self Efficacy Scale questionnaire and dietary adherence with Perceived Dietary Adherence questionnaire. Intervention conducted as much as 6 sessions for 12 days with duration of 60-100 minutes per session. The results showed that majority of respondents were women (75%) and aged 58-67. Mean values of SE before and after treatment were 27.21 and 32.19. Mean values of dietary adherence before and after treatment were 24 and 30.25. Bivariate test showed that there was a significant difference of mean value of SE and dietary adherence before and after treatment (p = 0,000. Different test results with Mann Whitney and Independent T-Test showed that there was SET effect on both dependent variable which was very meaningful (p=0,000). The conclusion of this study was SET could improve diabetics dietary adherence through improving SE. Key word: self efficacy training; self efficacy; compliance Reference: 117 (1977-2017)
