Abstract
This paper will discuss the processes of phonological syllable structure in Bahasa Indonesia that occursdue to the influence of phonological aspects. In the discussion will also be explained determination of theoutput of a set of candidates and constraints occur using Optimality theory. The data used in this paperwas obtained from Bahasa Indonesia Dictionary. The analysis showed that the Optimality theory is ableto explain that Bahasa Indonesia has eleven syllable patterns. Original pattern of Bahasa Indonesiasyllable structure is (C)V(C), while the pattern of modern Bahasa Indonesia syllable structure i(C)(C)(C)V(C)(C)(C). PEAK (rhyme) must exist in the Bahasa Indonesia syllables, while the ONSETand CODA are optional. In addition, the adding process of the syllable structure /mə -/ in the BahasaIndonesia stem causes the appearance of nasal sounds and vocals simultaneously, the appearance of nasasound and the strengthening of consonant sounds.
