Abstract
Perception can cause behavior change. Tuberculosis patients or TB patients will make a lot of consideration when they are going to start an individual care plan. This research aimed to describe perception of TB patients towards independent health care at Bandarharjo and Gunungpati Public Health Center. This was a descriptive explorative research. The sample of this research were 51 respondents. The result showed a third of total respondents (31,4%) were in early adulthood phase. Two-thirds of the respondents (66,7%) earned lower than 2 million rupiahs and majority of the respondents (92,2%) were newly diagnosed with TB. Almost two-thirds of the respondents (56,9%) had negative perception on drug consumption management (54,9%), stress management (51%), and prevention of transmission (49%). Meanwhile, about three fifths of the respondents had positive perception on activity and exercise (60,8%), and nutritional needs (58,8%). This study concluded that TB patients’ perception is negative. Thus, the Public Health Center at Bandarharjo and Gunungpati should perform more often health education about independent health care mainly on drug consumption management, prevention of transmission, and stress management. Counseling on stress management also needs to be conduct on a reguler basis.
