Departemen of Nursing Faculty of Medicine Diponegoro University July, 2017 ABSTRACT Intan Nurfa Amalia The Relationship between Sleep Quality and Physical Fatigue in Older Adults xvi+79 pages + 9 tables + 3 pictures + 8 attachments Some changes that occured to older adults, such as in the integument, cardiovascular, respiratory system, and genitourinaria, trigger various problems that caused sleep disorders. It could have been happened due to physical illness, drugs, stress, and environmental factors. The existence of sleep disorders affected the older adults’ health condition, such as physical fatigue. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sleep quality with physical fatigue in older adults. The type of this research was quantitative of cross sectional approach on 116 respondents, while Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS) were used in this study for questionnaire. 100 people or 86.2 percent of respondents had poor sleep quality and 75 people or 64.7 percent of respondents had severe fatigue. The research revealed that 15 people or 93.8 percent of 16 respondents who had a good sleep quality experienced minor fatigue, while 74 people or 74 percent of 100 respondents who had a poor sleep quality experienced severe fatigue, with statistical test result p value was 0.489. Based on the study’s results, it can be concluded that the sleep quality has a relationship with physical fatigue in older adults with medium meaning. Therefore, this study is expected to provide sufficient information. It is also supposed to be useful for further research about interventions such as counseling to overcome poor sleep quality and gymnastic to overcome physical fatigue in older adults.
