Abstract

Description of the implementation of growth detection and development of preschoolers conducted by early childhood educational educators in Banyumanik sub district, Semarang Early detection of children’s growth and development is to examine or to find earlier the deviation of the children’s growth for the creation of the quality of the next generation that can grow and develop physically, emotionally, and socially. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the detection of growth and development of pre-school children conducted by the educators of Early Childhood Education post in Banyumanik district of Semarang city. This was a descriptive quantitative research with cross sectional approach. This research used total sampling technique with 140 educators of Early Childhood Education post. The research data were obtained from questionnaire and displayed in form of frequency distribution table. The results showed that the implementation of the growth detection by the educators was at good category (89.3%). The implementation of developmental detection activities done by the educators based on the children’s age showed less favourable category, i.e. for the implementation of the 24 month-aged children was 70.7%, the 36-month-aged was 82.1%, the 48 month-aged was 80.0%, and for the 60-month-aged children was 55.5%. Good coordination between the health workers and the educators in the early detection and intervention as well as growth stimulation was necessary to optimize the growth and development of pre-school children.
