Abstract
Department of Nursing Faculty of Medicine Diponegoro University June 2017 ABSTRACT Indah Sri Maryati Factors Related to Appetite in Patients with COPD in Regional Public Hospital of K.R.M.T Wongsonegoro Semarang xvi + 73 pages + 3 figures + 10 tables + 13 appendixes The relationship between pulmonary disease and nutrition is an important aspect of the patient care. The loss of weight becomes a consequence of a decreased intake and appetite in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study aimed to describe the factors associated with the appetite in patients with COPD. This study was an analytical, descriptive research with a cross-sectional design and employed samples of 36 patients in the regional public hospital of K.R.M.T Wongsonegoro Semarang. The research instrument used was a questionnaire which consisted of respondent characteristics, drug observation, and patients’ appetite. The results showed that 58.3% of patients had poor appetite. The dominant variables associated with appetite were the drug administration (p-value of 0.005). Meanwhile, the variables unrelated to appetite were the gender (p-value of 0.418), the history of smoking (p-value of 1.000), the age (p-value 1.000) and the history of sputum production (p-value of 1.000). Based on the findings, it is necessary to do a monitoring and diet counseling in the management of nutrition in patients with COPD.
