Abstract
BMS is the use of breast milk substitutes which is in the form of formula milk. The use of BMS is allowed when a mother is lack of breastmilk; however, the formula should be processed specifically to substitute the breast milk. A preliminary study of 10 mothers indicated that five mothers washed their hands before preparing the BMS and three mothers were indicated to give the BMS to the infants aged 4-6 months every 2 hours. This study aimed to determine the description of the use of BMS in infants (0-6 months) whose parents are factory workers. This study was a non-experimental quantitative research with a descriptive design and cross-sectional approach. The samples were 117 respondents who were recruited using a total sampling. The data were collected using the questionnaire of BMS which had been tested for its validity and reliability test with the r count of > r table. The results showed that 76 people (65.0%) had positive practices of the use of BMS, 94 people (80.3%) gave the right BMS, and 117 people (100%) gave the BMS of cow’s milk with lactose. Based on the findings, it is suggested that mothers should provide an exclusive breastfeeding for their baby for six months and increase their knowledge of the appropriate use of BMS.
