Abstract
Preschool age who do not get good parenting have bigger risk to get psychosocial disturbance. There are some factors which influence the psychosocial development of preschool-age children; one of which is the type of mother’s occupation. Now, many mothers have to work and abandon their duties as parent. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the type of mother’s occupation and the psychosocial development of preschool-aged children in Karang Duwur village, Ayah sub-district in Kebumen regency. This study used a descriptive correlative design with a cross-sectional approach. A simple random sampling was employed to recruit the samples of 168 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires. A chi-square test was performed to determine the relationship between the type of mother’s occupation and the psychosocial development of preschool children. The results indicated that 60.1% of mother’s occupation was a housewife, and 53% of children experienced a deviant psychosocial development. The chi-square test obtained a p-value of 0.000, which indicated that there was a significant relationship between the type of mother’s occupation and the psychosocial development of preschool children. Psychosocial stimulation and presence of mothers can be one of the alternative solutions to optimize the psychosocial development of preschool children.
