Abstract

Breast milk is the first food for newborns and serves as the main nutrient for all infants. Efficacy is an important in breastfeeding sice it is used as , a mother's ability to breastfeed. Knowledge is one of the factors of a mother’s self-efficacy to do breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there are effects of health education about lactation management by using leaflets and educational videos on the self-efficacy of breastfeeding among third-trimester primigravida mothers. The present research described a pre-experimental method with research design employed was one group pretest-posttest design. The population was third-trimester primigravida mothers in the working area of the Rowosari public health center, Semarang. The samples were 32 mothers who were recruited by using a total sampling technique. The results showed that there were effects of health education intervention about lactation management on the self-efficacy of breastfeeding among the third-trimester primigravida mothers T-test with a p-value of 0.000. It is suggested that the public health center should reactivate the pregnant mother class activities with the material given is lactation management to develop the knowledge of pregnant women in preparing themselves for childbirth and breastfeeding.
