ABSTRACT Oskhadirani, Rissa. 2017. “Inner Conflict of Figure in Mori Ogai‟s Short Story Takasebune” A thesis of Japanese Department, Diponegoro University, Semarang. Advisor: Yuliani Rahmah, S.Pd., M.Hum. The object of this study is an short story entitled Takasebune. The method of data collection is library research. This study uses theory of characterization approach and psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis is Sigmund Freud‟s theory that discusses human personality structure. This thesis discusses internal conflict of Kisuke in short story Takasebune and the solving. The result of this study reveals the conflict factors the first such as brother’s of Kisuke want to die because his ilness. His wishes are causing conflict for Kisuke because suicide his failed and ask for help Kisuke to speed up his death. The incident making Kisuke go to prison and meet with Shobee. Kisuke solved his conflicts with ego defense mechanism. The defense aimed to reduce anxiety caused by excessive superego. Keywords: takasebune, internal conflict, conflict solving
