Abstract

This study is a continuation of my previous study (Gazali,2014) on the transliteration ofletters in Indonesian proper noun to Arabic based on phonological and graphologistapproach. Phoneme /C/ is is one of the letters not found in Arabic phonemes thusresulting in the emergence of transcriptional variation symbol of Latin to Arabic such as< ق،ش ، كخ ،س ، > and <شت> (Ibn Murad,1979:221; Attarazy & Amin, 1984:207) Thiscase has implications for the decoding process by readers. Factors causing the emergenceof this variant seems to be caused by lack of international standards related to the LatinArabic transcription symbols especially for Indonesian-Arabic. The research sources arescattered texts in online Arabic news media. This study is an initial study for mapping thesymbol of Indonesian phoneme transcription into Arabic.
