Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to find out about personality of the main characters in the short story. This research used short story “Kesa dan Morito” by Akutagawa Ryunosuke. The object that used in this research is about the main characters, Kesa and Morito. The theories which used in this research is structural theory and psychoanalysis theory. Structural theory used for get data of the element that build the story especially, characterization, theme, plot, message, and setting. Psychoanalysis theory for analysis structure and dynamics personality of the main characters. The result of research showing that Kesa has a balanced id and superego while Morito has dominated by id. It was also found that Kesa and Morito have a dynamics personality which are anxiety and ego defense mechanism.
