Abstract

ABSTRACT Priventa, Hendrike. 2017. “The Influence of Author’s Background based on Hoshi Shinichi’s Short Story NemuriUsagi (Study of Sociology of Literature)”. Thesis, Japanese Literature, Diponegoro University, Semarang. Supervisor FajriaNoviana, S.S., M.Hum. Literary works are born bless to their own authors by imagining the experience, feelings, identity, personality, thoughts, ideas, spirit, and beliefs of the author, so that every literary work created by the author will always reflect the author's self. The aims of this study are to describe the fiction structure of Hoshi Shinichi’s NemuriUsagi related to the topic, characters and characterizations, setting, and plot and to explain the influence of the author’s background in NemuriUsagi. The method used in this study is library researchthat is done by looking forappropriate references through books, theses, and scientific journals. This study is a kind of qualitative research which uses structural and sociological approach of literature. The result of the study is that there are influences of the family background which are (1) author’s social status, (2) adaptation of Aesop fable, (3) the explanation of the family. Moreover, there is the influence of author’s educational background: (1) discussing science and technology, (2) discussing medical science and medicine, and (3) the appearance of psychiatrist. The third result is that there is the influence of author’s job: (1) the complexity of the plot, (2) the interesting title, and (3) the use of dark ending. The fourth result is that there is the influence of socio-cultural background with regard to author’s residence which consists of (1) the addition of the character, Onna and (2) the story which is full of Japanese culture. The last result is that there is the influence of author’s ideology which is shown by the way of life: hedonism, fascism, and religion.
