PANTUN BUKA PALANG PINTU: KEARIFAN LOKAL DALAM PERNIKAHAN BETAWI

Abstract

Marriage is an important part of the human life. It is also called as a new chapter in the life of the human being. For Betawi people, marriage is also one of the important parts of life. It can be seen in the marriage procession that consists of several section from lamaran until akad nikah. Each part of the procession is meaningful and valuable. One of the procession in Betawi traditional wedding is called as buka palang pintu. At the wedding day, before the bridegroom meet the brides, the family o the bridegroom have to ask permission to the bride’s family so that the bridegroom can marry the bride. The role of jawara is important, because they have to give a good impression to the bride’s side and then the wedding procession can be continued. To get the permission jawara of the bridegroom and the bride will express it with pantun. This paper will discuss the values of pantun buka palang pintu in Betawi traditional wedding through the approach of linguistic anthropology. With this approach we will learn the values and the local wisdom of Betawi people through these kind of oral tradition.
