PEMERTAHANAN DAN REVITALISASI BAHASA JAWA DIALEK BANTEN

Abstract

This study aims at obtaining in-depth understanding on: 1) Serang community, 2) language maintenance and revitalisasion of the Javanese Banten dialect. The study was conducted with desctiptive qualitative method. The activities of this study was limited to cover in Serang city. The data for the study was collected by means of quesioner, recording, participatory observations, and interviews. The findings of the study lead to the following conclusion. First, in the choice of language in Serang community there was shift or transition in the first language from Javanese Banten dialect to Indonesian language. From 56 respondents, 46.43% or 26 people chose Indonesian as a first language, 32.14% or 18 people chose Javanese Banten dialect, and the rest other languages. Second, based on these findings it is necessary proceedings the government Javanese Banten dialect that do not lose their language. In Government, is done through a revitalization, both formal and non-formal line.
