Abstract
“When in Rome, do as the the Romans do”, so said a proverb. It means that if we are living in a new place or a new country, we should be able to adapt to local customs or culture. About 3 million of 16 million inhabitants in the Netherlands is not the native Dutch population. These substantial number have a large impact for Netherlands, specially on the Dutch language. The Government has set up new rules, namely the integration exam or inburgeringsexamen. This article will discuss the problems that occur in the Dutch language issues related to the entry of immigrants from some non-Dutch country.
