Abstract
The research is aimed to describe the language choice patterns in purchasing at traditional market Kecamatan Winong, Kabupaten Pati. This research uses linguistics, sociology, anthropology and social psychology approach; in a frame of sociolinguistics study. The data of this research are utterance of the sellers and the buyers in traditional market Kecamatan Winong, Kabupaten Pati. The sources of the data are the sellers and the buyers in traditional market Kecamatan Winong, Kabupaten Pati. The data were collected using the methods of observation, recording, and interview. The data were analyzed by using contextual-sociolinguistics approach. The language choice patterns in purchasing in PW are: the single language of ngoko-Javanese tends to be chosen by the sellers and the buyers as much as 72.5%, madya-Javanese 7.5%, and krama-Javanese 20.5%. The restricted code tends to be used as much as 97.5 %. However, the elaborated code is only 2.5%. Pati dialect Javanese tends to be used as much as 75%, but the standard Javanese is only 25%. The code-mixing tends to be used more than the code switching that is 17 compare to 11 speech events.
