PENGUNGKAPAN IDEOLOGI PATRIARKI PADA TEKS TATA WICARA PERNIKAHAN DALAM BUDAYA JAWA

Abstract

In language there is a phenomenon of oppression and injustice of woman by man. It happenscontinuously and is considered to be legal by the community, so that it seems natural. It is a reflection ofa culture that legitimizes the power of man towards woman in the case of language choice in the society.In Javanese, there is patriarchy culture which puts man‘s position above the woman‘s reflected inlanguage. The expression such as ―kanca wingking‖ refers to woman stereotype showing the wayJavanese society observes the world or reflects Javanese ideology concerning the position of man andwoman. Text as the result of human thinking reflects the culture which is legitimized within the society.To establish the relation between speech as a social practice and culture, critical discourse analysis isapplied to identify the Javanese ideology. ―Tata wicara‖ speeches in Javanesse wedding ceremony arefull of expressions showing unfairness of role between them. Based on those facts, this research tries toexplore what speeches showing patriarchy ideology in order to get knowledge/ belief, relation, and socialidentity of man and woman in Javanese culture.
