Abstract

The coastal dialect of Javanese, especially, in the eastern part of northern coastal of Central Java, is interesting to study since there are some dialectal variations, particularly in the phonological levels. Pati Regency is a region, which lies on the eastern part of northern coastal of Central Java, has specially characteristics in the Javanese spoken by the Pati community. The field data of this research were collected by the application of a participatory listening-conversing technique followed with a taping and recording techniques. Then, the collected data was analyzed using matching method and combining determinant constituent division and reflexive-introspective method. The presentation of the analysis results used formal and informal methods. The research shows that phonological variations of Javanese used in Pati include [i] and [I], [I] and [], [u] and [], [a] and [], [r] sounds, and nasal [ŋ]. In addition, there are morphological variations in the use of certain words in Pati. The differences shows that there variations in the Javanese language.
