Abstract

ABSTRACT Ramadhani, Wulan Suci 2017.“Social and Cultural Substance in Traditional Japanese society that Reflected in the Short Story Natto Kassen created by Kikuchi Kan”, Thesis Japanese Literature, Diponegoro University, Semarang. First Advisor Fajria Noviana, S.S., M.Hum, Second Advisor Arsi Widiandari, S.S., M.Si. The purpose of this research is to explain some intrinsic substance and social and cultural substance in traditional Japanese society that reflected in the short story titled Natto Kassen created by Kikuchi Kan. The method of this research is qualitative method with literature review. The theory that used to analyse in this research is Japanese Cultural Theory with Structural Approach. Structural Approach used to analyse intrinsic substance in this short story, such as the theme, plot, character and characterization also background of the story. Meanwhile, Japanese Cultural Theory is used to analyse Social and Cultural Substance in traditional Japanese society that reflected in this story. In this research, we can know that Japanese Social and Cultural substance in the story titled Natto Kassen is very related to whole of event and characteristic of the character in the story. The event that happened to primary character cause haji and giri raise in himself. Meanwhile, Social and Cultural Substance on reflected to other character that gives help to the primary character. Beside that, it has ninjo culture substance that reflected to people circumstances in this story. In a short way, it can describe that Natto Kassen story reflect Social and Cultural Substance in traditional Japanese society like haji, on, giri and ninjo Keywords : short story, structural analysis, Japanese social and cultural substance
