Gambaran Status Gizi Penyandang Diabetes Melitus di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Pegandan Kota Semarang

Abstract

Nutrition have become a major role in controlling the blood glucose levels. An inappropriate control of nutrition can give an effect on the nutritional status of people with diabetes. People with DM experienced 60% Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to identify the nutritional status of people with DM in the work area of the Pegandan public health center, Semarang. This study described a non-experimental and quantitative research with a cross sectional approach. A total sampling was used to select the respondents, and only those respondents who met the inclusion criteria (DM > 18 years), able to read and write were recruited. The Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) is one of the instruments used, consists of the anthropometric, general, diet, and subjective assessment. The data which included both physical measurements and questionnaires were processed using the univariate analysis and displayed in a frequency distribution table. A total of 139 respondents participated in the study. The majority of respondents (59%) were age 41-60 years and 41.7% experienced weight loss. The results also showed that 28.8% respondents had a normal nutritional status, 39.6% had the risk of malnutrition, and 31.7% experienced malnutrition. The study concluded that more respondents were in the state of malnutrition and risk of malnutrition. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the nutritional assessment and nutritional needs should do to maintain their blood sugar levels.
