Abstract

The critical condition is an instability physiological condition that can lead to disability or death. During therapy process, this family as the closest people for the patients will always accompany patients. Families may have some disturbances in the psychological, physical, and social dimensions that will affect their quality of life. The purpose of this research was to descibe the quality of life of critical patient’s family in ICU of Tugurejo Hospital Semarang. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected using caregiver Oncology Quality of Life (CarGoQoL) questionnaire. The number of sampel was 84 of critical patient’s familIies. Samples were collected using concecutive sampling. The results showed that more than half of the respondents had a low quality of life (57.1%). The mean score of each dimension of quality of life was Social Support dimensions (3,9±0,6), Relationship with healthcare dimensions (3,7±1,03), Self-esteem dimensions (3,5±1,2), Leisure Time dimensions (3,1±0,7), Administration and Finance dimensions (2,1±1,06), Private Life dimensions (2,1±1,05), Burden dimensions (2,1±1,05), Physical Well Being dimensions (2,0±0,8), Coping dimensions (1,9±0,9) and Psychological Well Being dimensions (1,8±0,7). The conclucion of this research showed that a half of the family had poor quality of life. Its is recommended that the healthcare provider shoud improve patient’s family quality of life by creating a support group.
