Abstract

An Analysis of the Implementation of Main Roles and Duties of Nurses and Midwives in Relation with the Maternal Assistance Program Using OSOC (One Student One Client) Approach in Semarang xviii+ 104 pages + 12 tables + 22 appendixes Maternal assistance programs aim to reduce the incidence of crises and complications of pregnancy which can cause maternal deaths. This study aimed to obtain a description of the main roles and duties of nurses and midwives at the maternal assistance programs, to analyze the relationships between the main roles and duties of nurses and midwives at the maternal assistance programs towards the nurse-midwife respondents' characteristics, and to review the nurses' and midwives' roles and duties at the maternal assistance programs. This study used an exploratory mixed method which involved both quantitative and qualitative methods. The number of quantitative samples was 57 consisting of 30 nurses and 27 midwives, while the samples for a focus group discussion (FGD) included 4 nurses and 3 midwives. The results showed that 43.3% of nurses and 55.6% of midwives performed good roles and duties at the maternal assistance programs. There was no relationship between the roles and duties of nurses at thematernal assistance programs by the nurses (p-value= 0.445). Also, there was no relationship between the main roles and duties of midwives and maternal assistance programs by the midwives (p-value= 0.108). Midwives can implement the maternal and child health (MCH) programs assisted by the other assisting personnel to overcome the obstacles they may encounter. Structurally, nurses do not play roles and duties at the maternal health programs, but they can still carry on their roles in the community health care program.
