Abstract

Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when the fertility diminishes and the menstrual period permanently stops. Menopause occurs since the estrogen significantly decreases and can cause menopausal symptoms. These symptoms can disturb and affect the woman’s daily life. The menopausal symptoms can be minimized by practicing regular physical activities for at least 30 minutes a day. These activities are important to reduce various complaints in the post-menopausal women. This study aimed to identify the relationship between physical activities and menopausal symptoms in the pre-menopausal women in Tembalang urban village, Semarang. This was a quantitative study which employed a descriptive correlative design with a cross sectional approach. The samples were determined by using a probability sampling, which involved 191 respondents. The data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that most respondents engaged in a moderate level of physical activity as many as 143 (74.8%), and 52 respondents (36.4%) did not experience any menopausal symptoms. The statistical test showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating that there was a relationship between the physical activities and the menopausal symptoms in the pre-menopausal women in Tembalang urban village, Semarang. Based on the findings, it is advisable that the pre-menopausal women do regular and daily physical activities to reduce the adverse effects of menopausal symptoms.
