Abstract

ABSTRACT Istiqomah Dwni Ningtyas. 2016. “Shifting form andmeaning in Detective Conan Comics vol 84 and 85. Thesis, Department of Japanese Studies Faculty of Humanities. Diponegoro University. The Advisor S.I. Trahutami, S.S., M.Hum. This research focuses on the analysis of the shift in form and meaning in translating. Detective Conan comics from Japanese to Indonesian. The purpose of writing is to know shift in form and meaning from Bsu into Bsa and techniques used in keep equivalence form and meaning of the source language to the target language. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data used is the Detective Conan Comics Vol 84 and 85 created by Gosho Aoyama and its translations in Indonesian named Detective Conan vol 84 and 85 by PT Elex Media Komputindo. The theory used include translation theory by Nida and Taber and Miyagawa and Takaoka, shifting form and meaning by Catford and Simatupang and translation techniques according to Molina and Albir. From the analysis we concluded, that there are 68 data about shift in form and meaning. The shift is composed of a shift in form divided into two level shift and category shift. category shift is subdivided into a structure shift and class of word shift, unit shift and intra system shift. And a shift in meaning which consists of a shift from generic meaning to the specific meaning and otherwise and a shift in meaning from the viewpoint of culture Keywords : translating, shift in form, shift in meaning.
