Abstract
Low level of nurse’s knowledge about pain will influence nurse’s action in assessing pain. Pain indicates abnormal disruption in our body. Pain which is undetected, unassessed, and uncontrolled not only increases uncomfortness for the patients, but also influences the children growth. The aim of this study was to identify the correlation of nurse’s knowledge level and nursing actions of pain assessment in pediatric installation RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang. Descriptive study with cross-sectional approach was conducted by using questionnaires among 60 nurses totally selected in pediatric installation RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang. Data was processed by Spearman rank correlation analysis. This study also indicated that the level of nurses’ knowledge correlated with the action of pain assessment by nurses in pediatric installation RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang (p-value = 0.01). Delivering the professional nursing care based on SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), providing workshop for nurses about pain assessment, and finding a reliable source of information should be addressed to improve the nurses’ knowledge about the pain assessment in children which will have an impact on the quality of service improvement.
