Abstract

Deforestation in Indonesia led to reduced biodiversity and the potential loss of environmental services. Jambi province especially Merangin regency is one area that is struggling to combat deforestation. Guguk Indigenous Forests an example of community-based management of indigenous forests are managed to maintain sustainability. But have not succeeded in improving the welfare of society. Then conducted a study on the tourism development strategy Guguk Indigenous Forests. This study aims to determine the potential and condition of the object natural attractions and biodiversity on Guguk Indigenous Forests, supporting infrastructure, the environment of social and economic aspects of indigenous peoples, support of government and stakeholders and ecotourism development strategies are most appropriate. The method used in this study a qualitative and quantitative descriptive. A qualitative approach derived from observation and search related documents. A quantitative approach based on the analysis of public perceptions of socio-cultural, economic, potential of object natural attractions and biodiversity and development strategy using SWOT method. The results showed Guguk Indigenous Forests have a high potential to be developed into eco-tourism destination. There many natural attractions, the presence of Sumatran tigers and other endangered animal species, waterfalls, trekking paths, availability of homestay, communities still maintain customs and cultural heritage. However, the potential value of object natural attractions and biodiversity roundly are in the category of "moderate". Accessibility far from the airport Jambi a minus value to be fixed, whereas the connectivity of the village of Muara Bungo Guguk and service yet. Rating perceptions of society and other relevant stakeholders to support the development of ecotourism have positive results. An average of more than 80% of respondents favor. The tourism development strategy: 1) Establish cooperation with various parties; 2) The involvement of the community; 3) Develops a special travel package; 4) Direction and intensive coaching 5) Education and training to improve people's creativity; 6) Strengthening of human resources competencies of Guguk Indigenous Forests management 7) Package tours integrative; 8) Mentoring sustainable manner; 9) Improved community initiative and KPHA Guguk 10) Guidance, supervision and periodic control.
