Abstract
Intracranial pressure (ICP) is a total pressure urged by the brain, blood, and cerebrospinal fluid in the cranial vault more than 15 mmHg (normal value 3-15 mmHg). The nursing care management of raised ICP are adequate oxygenation, hyperventilation, CSF drainage, diuretic therapy and hipersomolar, hypothermia, blood glucose control and nutrition, decompressive craniectomy, positioning, environmental stimuli, blood pressure management, and prevention seizures. This study aimed to describe the nurse’s knowledge about intracranial pressure (ICP) management in moderate-severe head injury patients in hospitals in Semarang City. Design of this study is descriptive survey using a questionnaire that passed the validity and reliability test. Determination of the sample using total sampling and the number of respondent were 88 emergency and intensive nurse in some hospitals in Semarang City. The study used univariate analysis. The result of this study shows that majority of nurses have good knowledge (63,6%) about ICP management and (36,4%) nurses have less knowledge about ICP management. The knowledge about definition is the highest and the knowledge about ICP management is the lowest. This study is expected to be an input for hospitals to conduct specific training to the emergency and intensive nurses on the ICP management in various patient conditions.
