Abstract

ABSTRACT Ayu Putri Lestari, 2016. “Internal Conflict of Kaoru Amane as the Main Character in Norihiro Koizumi’s Movie Taiyou No Uta”. A thesis of Japanese Department, Diponegoro University, Semarang. Advisor: Zaki Ainul Fadli, S.S., M.Hum. Taiyou No Uta is a movie by Norihiro Koizumi. Taiyou No Uta tells about a girl with rare illness Xeroderma Pigmentosum, Kaoru Amane who struggles for her true love. This study discovers the interal conflict of main character in movie Taiyou No Uta. Data collection of the study is library research. Method of the study uses structural method which reveals the movie aspects such as theme, character, characterization, plot, and setting. Those aspects can discover an interrelationship with the internal conflict. This study also uses psychological method in regard to discover the psychological condition of main character, the internal conflict, and the factor of internal conflict. Theories of this study are Higgins’s theory, Kurt Lewin’s theory, and Djalaludin Rakhmat’s theory. The result of this study explains main character’s failure of ideal self-actual self discrepancy solving. The failure occurs in three period of time consisting of childhood period, period of not knowing Kouji, and period of being faraway from Kouji. Moreover, the main character involves in two internal conflicts such as approach-avoidance conflict and avoidance-avoidance conflict. The factors that trigger those conflicts are socio-psychological factor and biological factor.
