Abstract
Smartphone is a communication device which mostly used by people, especially by adolescents. Adolescents often use smartphone without a good self-control that can cause addiction. Smartphone addiction can cause various problem either physical, psychological or social, including the decline of social skills. Social skills are very important for adolescents so that they can interact with others more easily and can fulfill the needs of comfort in social life. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between addiction level and social skills in smartphone user adolescents in Junior High School 10 Tegal. This research was a correlation study using cross sectional method. Data collection used Smartphone Addiction questionnaire of Nurdiani to determine smartphone addiction level and Social Skills questionnaire of Nugraini to determine social skill level. The number of respondents was 196 students grade VIII and IX which collect by stratified random sampling. The result of this study was there is a negative correlation between smartphone addiction and social skills in smartphone user adolescents (p = 0,049 and r = -0,141). To reduce the smartphone addiction is by time management, family therapy and rehabilitation. Key words: smartphone addiction, social skills, adolescents
