Abstract

Background : Maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is still high, last data showed 359 deaths in 100.000 births in 2012. SDG target, that is a decrease of MMR to 70 deaths per 100.000 births by 2030, cannot be achieved by only relying on health practitioners. Community engagement and empowerment is also needed. Pemberdayaan dan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (PKK) is one possible way to empower communities and engage them in health improvement, particularly in its promotive and preventive aspect. Aim : To find out the potency of PKK in solving high-risk pregnancy problems through community engagement and empowerment. Methods : This study used mixed method, qualifying quantitative data method. Qualitative data was assessed with in-depth interview. Quantitative data gained by using questionnaire for the variable, cadre’s level of knowledge. Results : Man, method, and materials elements of PKK related to countermeasuring high-risk pregnancy can be said as good. While for the money element, TP.PKK had received funds from the local government although the same couldn’t be said for PKK groups as they’re self-funded. Problems faced included the low interest of community to join as cadre or PKK’s officials, still-lacking cadres’ initiative, and the community itself as target of PKK as community is comprised of many facets. Conclusion : PKK has a potential in tackling high-risk pregnancy problems through community engagement and empowerment although there’re still obstacles that are needed to be overcame. Key Words : Potential, PKK, high-risk pregnancy, community empowerment
