ABSTRACT Jada, Ade Karlina. 2016. “The Comparison Between Japanese Folklore Entitled Yuki-Onnaand Indonesian Folklore Entitled Dewi Nawang Wulanon Its Moral Values Analysis”. Thesis, Japanese Literature Study Program, Diponegoro University, Semarang. The First Advisor is Laura Andri Retno, S.S., M.A. The Second Advisor is Yuliani Rahmah, S.Pd., M.Hum. Folklore is the story of the past that become an earmark for each nation with diverse cultures, includes those nations’ varies cultures and history. The presence of a folklore is not only to entertain their people but also as a media to deliver the noble values. Although coming from different countries, some folklore have some similarities. One folklore that has similarities on their story was Yuki-Onnafolklore from Japan and Dewi Nawang Wulan folklore which is from Indonesia. That encourage the authors to do further analysis on its content similarities and differences and the moral values that contained in Japanese folklore Yuki-Onna and Indonesia folklore Dewi Nawang Wulan. This study was aimed to answer the problem formulations which were; obtaining a description about the story differences and similarities of Japanese folklore Yuki-Onna and Indonesia folklore Dewi Nawang Wulan, and knowing the moral values contained in both folklore. The method used in this research was the study of comparative literature to analyze both the differences and similarities from the story of Japanese folklore Yuki-Onna and Indonesia folklore Dewi Nawang Wulan. Furthermore, in addition of using the study of comparative literature, the authors also use a pragmatic approach to analyze the moral values contained in both folklore. The research results that have been achieved was despite the similarities of theme, plot, characters, and the background that was told by them, the story of those folklore was unrelated and does not affect one each other. The moral values contained from Japanese folklore Yuki-Onna and Indonesia folklore Dewi Nawang Wulan most describe on relationships among one person to others in the social sphere. Both folklore offers an idealized form of life for the community through the figures’ attitudes and behavior. Keywords: Folklore, Comparative Literature, Moral Values.
