Abstract

Background : Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhytmia. Atrial fibrillation is believed to have correlation with cognitive decline but the mechanism is still unclear. One of the instruments to assess cognitive function is Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Aim: Determine the correlation between atrial fibrillation and cognitive decline assessed with Montreal Cognitive Assessment in Indonesian version (MoCA-Ina). Method: The design of this research is observational research using cross sectional design. Subjects of this study consist of 14 subjects with atrial fibrillation and 14 subjects with sinus rhytm at Dr.Kariadi Hospital Semarang from April to May 2016. Then cognitive function of the groups were assessed with Montreal Cognitive Assessment in Indonesian version. Result: The result showed cognitive decline was found in 13 subjects with atrial fibrillation (92,9%) and 3 subjects with sinus rhytm (21,4%). There was a significant correlation between atrial fibrillation and cognitive decline (p=0,000). Conclusion: Based on the result of this research, there is a significant correlation between atrial fibrillation and cognitive decline.
