PENGARUH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK DAUN PEPAYA (Carica papaya L.) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Pseudomonas aeruginosa SECARA IN VITRO

Abstract

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common cause of infection in diabetic ulcer. Treatment for P. aeruginosa infection is antibiotic combination which has bactericidal feature. Several natural substance also has a bactericidal feature, in this case is papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) Aim: To find out how papaya leaf extract effects P. aeruginosa Method: This research is an experimental study. This research has 9 different treatments, there are 6 different concentrations (5%, 20%, 35%, 50%, 65%, 80%), work control (media), positive control (P. aeruginosa), and negative control (antibiotics). A well made in Mueller Hinton agar media, then drops the papaya leaf extract inside the well. After that, Mueller Hinton agar media incubated in 18-24 hours in 35oC. In the end, measure inhibitory diameter in Mueller Hinton agar media by using vernier caliper. Result: Average diameter of inhibition in controls are 29,5 mm for ciprofloxacin and 32,5 mm for ceftazidime. The 6 diameter of inhibition of the treatment group has 0 mm diameter. Conclusion: Papaya leaf extract did not have any antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Key Words: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, papaya leaf extract, Carica papaya L.
