HUBUNGAN TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN SANTRI DENGAN PERILAKU PENCEGAHAN SKABIES DI PONDOK PESANTREN DARUT TAQWA BULUSAN SEMARANG TAHUN 2016

Abstract

Background: Attention on Scabies is needed due to its substantial contribution on global morbidity and mortality according to the WHO. It often infects children staying in boarding school. Some contributing factors on scabies infection are the level of knowledge and person prevention behavior. Objective: Determine the correlation between students’ scabies knowledge and their prevention behavior towards scabies in Darut Taqwa Bulusan Islamic Boarding School Semarang. Methods: This observational analytic study is using cross sectional design. Two hundred and fifty boarding students in Darut Taqwa Bulusan Semarang were taken as respondents by purposive sampling methods. Data were collected by piloted questionnaires on respondents’ characteristics, factors related to the scabies prevention behavior, and its confounding factors. Data were analyzed using Kolmogorov Smirnov and Chi Square test followed by Logistic Regression. Results: There was no correlation between the students’ level of knowledge on scabies and their prevention behavior (POR=0.975, CI=0.568-1.672, p=0.926); after elimination of confounding variables attitude and perception (POR=0.463, CI=0.276-0.777, p=0.004). While belief confounding factor have no correlation to prevention behavior on scabies in Darut Taqwa Bulusan Islamic Boarding School Semarang (POR=0.650, CI=0.400-1.197, p=0.188) Conclusions: There was no correlation between the students’ level of knowledge and the prevention behavior on scabies in Darut Taqwa Bulusan Islamic Boarding School Semarang.
