Abstract

Background : Methanol is the simplest alcohol . Methanol is often misused as a substitute for alcohol in the form of drinks adulterated because the price is cheap. Abuse of this methanol poisoning is harmful to the body and cause death . Aim : To determine the effectiveness of ranitidine against gastric damage level Wistar rats induced dose -rise methanol . Methods : This research is a research laboratory experimental research design with post test only control group design. The number of samples was 35 mice with certain criteria , divided into 7 groups . 1 group as a negative control , untreated , as a positive control 3 groups , was given a dose of methanol -rise , as a treatment 3 groups, given methanol multilevel dose and ranitidine . Giving methanol done orally with a gastric sonde . While the provision of Ranitidine was injected intraperitoneally with a syringe . Statistical test using the Kruskal Wallis and Mann - Whitney test . Results : At the Mann-Whitney test between the negative control group to the treatment groups there were significant differences ( p < 0.05 ) . In the comparison group II and V is not found significant difference ( p = 0.55 ) . In addition , the comparison group III and VI is not found significant difference ( p = 0.747 ) . However, a comparison group IV and VII obtained significant difference ( p = 0.012 ) , but not in accordance with the hypothesis . Conclusion : Giving ranitidine in Wistar rats after exposed to graded doses of methanol can not prevent the toxic effects of methanol on Wistar rat gastric .
