Abstract
Backgound: Jamu kunyit asam is consist of mixture of tumeric (Curcuma domestica) and tamarind (Tamarindus indica) wich often consumed by pregnant mother. Many articles said its not recommend to be consumed by pregnant mother and breastfeeding mother because it cause abortus risk, premature contraction, uterus bleeding, and uterina spasm. Aim: To show the effect of consuming extract kunyit asam to the growth and development of sceleton fetuses mice Balb/c on gestation period. Method: True experimental studies “post tes only control group design” using 20 mice were divided into 4 groups. Control group wasn’t given any intervention and Treatment groups I, II, and III (P1, P2, and P3) given extract kunyit asam per oral with 1.365 mg/kg BW/day dose, 4.095 mg/kg BW/day dose, and 12.285 mg/kg BW/day dose. Treatment given during organogenesis period from gestation 8-17, laparactomy were performed on day 18 of gestation. Sceletal growth and development were observed after sceleton preparation using Alizarin Red- Alcian Blue, consist osification number of sceletal and osification level of apendicular and axial sceletal. Result: There is no significant difference between control, P1, P2, and P3 in axial sceleton, but there is significant difference in apendicular sceleton on treatment group III (P3). Conclusion: Extract kunyit asam delay the growth and development of apendicular sceleton such as decreasing number of carpal and tarsal, and ossification delay on long bone extremities. Keywords: extract kunyit asam, skeleton, fetus
