Thesis, Departement of Japanese Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The First Advisor Zaki Ainul Fadli, S.S. M.Hum. The Second Advisor Fajria Noviana, S.S. M.Hum. Adapting a history into literature caused inappropriate fact and fiction itself. One of the reasons is the addition of non-historical elements into the story, for example fictional characters. As well Kaze Hikaru, a mangaworks by Watanabe Taeko. The problem is, do the fictional characters give impact and change significanty within the history in the manga or not. Purpose of this research is to compare the real history of Shinsengumi with Shinsengumi story that illustrated in Kaze Hikaru. Also describe how is the fictional character’s role might change the real history representation. This research used equipping literature study methodology and intrinsic element analyzes method. And then the manga and real history document are being inspected and compared with inspecting history theory. Result of this research is: there is changing representation among some phenomenon because of the existence of the main fictional character, Kamiya Seizaburou.And the resumes are: (1) Okita Souji’s image in the manga is illustrated more interesting to attract shoujo manga readers, (2) the accomplishment of fight scene between Kamiya Seizaburou and Osaka sumo athlete, is illustrated more gently, (3) the solution of Yamato-ya Shop burning by Kamiya Seizaburou is illustrated in more gentle method, (4) there is difference between the reason Okita Souji’s faint in the Ikeda-ya incident. The conclusions of this research are the existence of main fictional character causes some modification in the history representation. But the modification doesn’t make any significant changes because the story line is still equal with the real history document, but the solution in each problem are made more gentle and simple.
