PERSEPSI DAN PARTISIPASI ANGGOTA DPRD PROPINSI DAERAH ISTIMEWA YOGYAKARTA (DIY) TERHADAP KESETARAAN GENDER

Abstract

The issue reaches the political domain especially the one that is related to the roles and contribution of women was still marginal because of many factors, either cultural, institutional, social or values which exist in the society. This condition influence the participation of women in general and Yogyakarta women’s in particular in various fields such as governance public and political field is influenced by the recruitment system used so far which is not optimal. This is also caused by men’s perception that dominates the politics and mass organization. Therefore there is no open optimal chance for women. The other causing factor which influences the phenomenon is the traditions, customs and cultural values of the Yogyakarta people in general that consider women as weak and loose creatures. Women than get less chance even though normatively both men and women have balanced position in various sectors. Therefore the research is directed to two main question which need to be studied namely : how the perception and participation as legislative members in the Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta province of gender equality.
