Abstract

Peripheral neuropathy is one of microvascular complications of DM (Diabetes Mellitus) that happens on peripheral section and causes the nerves dysfunction. This nerves dysfunction can affect sensoric, motoric, and autonomic nerve function. The aims of this study was to describe peripheral neuropathy on diabetics in Puskesmas Kedungmundu Semarang. This study was a descriptive quantitative model using cross sectional approach. Total population sampling was used in this study. There were observation sheets that was modified from MNSI (Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument) and MDNS (Michigan Diabetic Neuropathy Score) consist of 38 contens. Univariat analysis was used in this study. A total of 113 respondents had been participated in this study. The result showed that the majority of respondents were in the midle-adult diabetics (73.5%), female (61,9%), have diabetes for more than 5 years (50.4%), and have random glucose level ≥200 mg/dL (52.2%). Some of diabetics have other disease, amputation history, and DFU (Diabetic Foot Ulcer) history (29.2%, 3.5%, 5.3%). The nerves dysfunction are mostly founded in autonomic dysfunction, either on right or left foot. There were more diabetics with mild neuropathy (55.8%) compared to diabetics with moderate or severe neuropathy (28.3% ; 9.7%). This study concluded that the majority of respondents have peripheral neuropathy. Therefore, early assessment is needed to prevent stage severity of peripheral neuropathy.
