Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of macroeconomic, social, and demographic on poverty rate in metropolitan area (especially Gerbangkertosusila), and to know the difference of poverty rate’characteristic in every regency/city where it includes to Gerbangkertosusila area. The effect of macroeconomic was showed by economic growth; the effect of social were showed by unemployment rate, labor force participation rate, illiteracy rate, and life expectancy; and the effect of demographic was showed by total population. Those variables were independent variables and poverty rate was dependent variable This research used Fixed Effect Model Least Square Dummy Variable, FEM LSDV model. Surabaya City was decided to be a benchmark to analyze the difference of poverty rate’s charateristic. The data are collected from BPS East Java Province and INDO-DAPOER in 2000-2013. The result of this research shows that :1) economic growth has negative and insignificant effect to poeverty rate; 2) unemployment rate and total population have positive and significant effect to poverty rate; 3) labor force participation rate and life expectancy have negative and significant to poverty rate; 4) illeteracy rate has positive effect but it’s not significant effect to poverty rate; 5) The poverty rate’s charateristic in Mojokerto City, Mojokerto Regency, Gresik Regency, Lamongan Regency, and Bangkalan Regency different with Surabaya City while the poverty rate’s charateristic in Sidoarjo Regency has no different with Surabaya City. Beside that, R2-value = 0,8547 means that the model can be explained 85,47 percent by the independent variables and the rest 14,53 percent explained by the other variables that it’s not included in the model.
