Abstract

ABSTRACT Purnama, Khairinnisa. 2016. “Contrastive Analysis of Noun Reduplication of Japanese and Javanese Language”. Thesis, Department of Japanese Studies Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University. The First Advisor Dr. M. Suryadi, M.Hum. Second Advisor Lina Rosliana , S.S., M.Hum. This thesis discussed about the comparison of noun reduplication of Japanese and Javanese language. The writer only discussed about the noun reduplication due to the absence of research concerning reduplication in detail based on the word class. This research aimed to answer two problems, which are (1) to know the process of formation noun reduplication in Japanese and Javanese language, (2) to find out the similarities and the differents between noun reduplication of Japanese and Javanese language. The writer compared by using contrastive analysis method. The scope of the study is morphology and only focused on one kind of morphology which is reduplication. In the process of identification, the writer used descriptive method. There are three steps in this method, which are collecting the data, analyzing and drawing conclusion. Based on the analysis performed, the writer find out that noun reduplication of Japanese language is divided into two categoriesand Javanese language have three categories. In addition, we are able to know that noun reduplication of Japanese and Javanese language has several similarities and differences. One of the similarities from Japanese and Javanese noun reduplication is that both of them have full noun reduplication, and pseudo noun reduplication. The differences of Japanese and Javanese noun reduplication are Javanese language has a partial and pseudo noun reduplication with change for phoneme, meanwhile in Japanese language, it is hard to find those kind of noun reduplication. Other differences are Javanese language marked by a hyphen (-) between the basic word and its repetition. On the other hand Japanese language is not marked by the hyphen, however it is marked by repetition (々) behind the kanji. Moreover, the difference lies on the change of phoneme between Japanese and Javanese language. In Japanese language, there was a change of repeated consonant, while in Javanese language, there was a change of its vowel. Through this research, the learner will be easy to understand Japanese language by comparing to Javanese language. Keywords: reduplication; Japanese; Javanese; contrastive.
