Abstract
This research was done by developing a model to analyze the effectiveness of the organization from the aspects of the service, the acquisition of the number of students, as well as scientific publications at universities in Semarang. With the research problem: how to enhance the effectiveness of high college through competitive advantage? The populations in this study are the head of study program and structural officers at the college in Semarang as many as 176 respondents. Data analysis instrument used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in AMOS 21.0. The results of model examining and analyzing shows that two of the five research hypotheses are acceptable, internal social capital (H1) gives positive and significant influence toward competitive advantage, with regression coefficient of 0.417, external social capital (H2) gives positive and significant influence toward competitive advantage with regression coefficient 0.439, internal social capital (H3) gives positive influence but not significant toward the organizational effectiveness with regression coefficient 0.367, so the hypothesis is rejected, external social capital (H4) gives positive influence but not significant toward organizational effectiveness with regression coefficient 0.205, so the hypothesis this was rejected, and the last competitive advantages (H5) gives positive influence but not significant toward organizational effectiveness with regression coefficient 0.199, that makes this hypothesis rejected. Based on the results it can be concluded that the inability of social capital either directly or indirectly, in improving organizational effectiveness can be caused due to the effects of social capital generated long term. Furthermore, between the two factors that affect the competitive advantage (internal social capital and external social capital), it was found that external social capital is the most dominant factor of influence on competitive advantage. Managerial implications that can be suggested by this study is a policy that focuses on improving the quality of their working relationship with external parties in college.
