KAJIAN ETNOGRAFI KOMUNIKASI TERHADAP PERCAKAPAN ODSA (ORANG DENGAN SINDROM ASPERGER)

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explain the components of communication and their inter-relationship resulted from an on-air radio conversation between an ODSA (Orang dengan Sindrom Asperger / People living with Asperger Syndrome) and a radio announcer. Hymes‟s mnemonic S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G model (1972) and its inter-relationship theory by Saville-Troike (2003) are used to analyze the data. Non-participatory, interview and observation are the methods used to retrieve the data. The results show that an ODSA found it difficult to engage in conversation in a coherent way. The data indicated he could not smoothly involve in the given topic. It is unthinkable for the ODSA to be committed to some communicative components, i.e. genre, setting, participants, end, act of sequence, norm of interaction and norm of interpretation. However, the ODSA can rely on two components: key and instruments, which seem to be effective during the communicative event. Based on the finding, the writer proposes a prototype called “Tube of Communication Channel” as a simple alternative solution to sustaining the effective conversation along with ODSA. Keywords : S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G, Components of communication, Asperger Syndrome, ODSA Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menjabarkan komponen komunikasi, hubungan antar-komponennya serta pola komunikasi dari sebuah percakapan radio yang dilakukan oleh seorang ODSA (Orang dengan Sindrom Asperger) dengan seorang penyiar radio. Data penelitian ini adalah rekaman percakapan antara seorang penyiar dan narasumber ODSA. Metode observasi non partisipatoris, metode simak dan metode cakap digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan model komponen komunikasi S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G Hymes, 1974 serta teori hubungan antar komponen Saville-Troike, 2003. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ODSA terlihat kesulitan terlibat dalam percakapan. Data menunjukkan ia mengalami kesulitan dalam beberapa komponen komunikatif, yaitu: genre, setting, participants, end, act of sequence, norm of interaction dan norm of interpretation. Meski demikian dua komponen lain, yakni key dan instrument dinilai efektif. Berdasar penemuan di atas, penulis mengajukan sebuah prototipe “Tabung Saluran Komunikasi” sebagai solusi alternatif sederhana untuk menunjang percakapan dengan ODSA.
