Abstract
SPECTROFOTOMETER is one method of instrumental analysis using the basic interaction of energy and matter. Spectro can be used to determine the concentration of a solution through absorption intensity at a particular wavelength. The wavelength used is the maximum wavelength which gives maximum absorbance. One spectrophotometer working principle is based on the phenomenon of light absorption by specific chemical species in the area of visible light (visible). Chlorophyll is the green pigment that plays a role in the process of photosynthesis to absorb and convert light energy into chemical energy. The content of chlorophyll in leaves of papaya is quite large compared to other leaves. the higher the chlorophyll content of leaves of papaya ability to capture the energy of light radiation is very efficient. materials needed in the test chlorophyll content in papaya extract, among others: papaya, and acetone with different concentrations. The main tools required in chlorophyll content test on papaya extract is Visible Spectrophotometer Genesys tool 20. The working principle of this device is based on the phenomenon of light absorption by specific chemical species in the region of visible light (visible). Of the five trials that have tested is known that the optimal total chlorophyll content that is on the fifth trial with five samples using 85% acetone for 29, 678 mg / L. This happens because the high concentration of the solvent acetone and large sample weight affect the outcome of total chlorophyll obtained. So the concentration of acetone large and heavy samples drawn a lot of the chlorophyll in papaya extract will be more as well so that the absorbance at a wavelength of 644 nm and 663 nm will also great because colors are drawn increasingly green chlorophyll.
