Abstract
Background: Tawas widely used as additives in food. Tawas most widely used because this material is the most economical and easily available in the market, Tawas including one kind of heavy metal. Heavy metals in ionic form highly toxic can cause organ damage, liver and kidney detoxification ie. Heavy metals cause necrosis of the epithelial cells of the renal tubules. Objective: To determine the effect of Tawas difference in feed multilevel dose for 30 days to change picture Wistar rat renal histopathology. Methods: The research laboratory experimental true with post test only control group design. A sample of 20 Wistar rats which have fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion kereteria, adapted for 7 days. after the Wistar rats were divided by simple random sampling into 4 groups. The control group (K) only fed standard. P1 Tawas in the feed given 2400mg / kg / day; P2 Tawas in the feed given 1600mg / kg / day: and P3 Tawas in the feed given 800mg / kg / day. after the 30 days, renal histopathology examination in the form of degeneration and necrosis. The data described in the form of tables, figures, and statistical analysis. Results: The mean renal tubular cell degeneration highest in P3 group while the highest average necrosis in Group P1. At degeneration, there are significant differences between the control group with group P1, P2 and P3, while P1 to P2 and P3, P2 to P3 not significant. On necrosis, there is a difference between the control group with group P1, P2 and P3. P1 significant group with group P3, while P1 to P2 and P2 to P3 not significant. Conclusion: The provision of multi-storey doses of Tawas in feed for 30 days resulted in renal histopathology changes in Wistar rats. Keywords: Tawas, Kidney, Degeneration, Nekrosi.
