Abstract

Background: the stress which is suffered by new graduate nurses must be managed well. The escalation of work stress can influence the nurse’s performance, decrease the quality of health service, and cause turnover intention. Objective: to analyze the relation between the application of mentoring and the level of work stress of the new nurses in SMC Telogorejo Hospital. Methods: The design of this research is correlational analytical research by using a cross sectional approach. There are 30 new graduate nurses to be the population of this study who were choosen by the method of total sampling and were given questionnaires about the application of mentoring and their level of stress work. The process of data analysis used spearman rank test system to examine the relation between the application of mentoring and the level of work stress. Results: the application of mentoring results 65 of median score, 38 for the lowest score, and 67 for the highest score. The level of the work sress of the new graduate nurses can be calassified as normal until light stress which has 27 of median, the lowest score is 8, and the highest one is 40. Therefore, there is a meaningful relationship between the application of mentoring and the level of work stress of the new graduate nurses. Conclusion: the better the application of mentoring the lower the level of work stress of the new graduate nurses in SMC Telogorejo Hospital Semarang.
